Smart Paste

Press ⌃⌘V to paste the clipboard adapted to the field you’re in, shown as a preview before it’s kept.

Smart Paste pastes what’s on your clipboard, reshaped to fit where it’s going. Press ⌃⌘V instead of ⌘V, and Aha tidies the text for the field you’re in, then shows it as a preview, just like Field Assist.

What it does

Smart Paste keeps the meaning, facts, links and language of what you copied. It only changes the shape.

  • Plain text where formatting won’t show. Paste from a web page into a plain field and you get clean text, not stray markup.
  • Chat-friendly layout. A table or a long block pasted into Slack or Messages becomes short lines or bullets.
  • A short query in a search box. Paste a paragraph into a search field and you get a concise search.
  • One line where only one fits, like a terminal or an email subject.
  • Tidier links and text. Tracking parameters in links, stray line breaks, double spaces and leftover page clutter are cleaned up.

Smart Paste doesn’t add anything or answer anything. If the clipboard contains instructions, they’re treated as text to paste, never followed. It only summarizes when the destination can’t hold the whole thing.

Use it

  1. Copy something Copy text from anywhere as usual.
  2. Place your cursor Click where you want it. To replace text, select it first.
  3. Press ⌃⌘V The field shimmers for a moment, then the adapted text appears highlighted in blue.
  4. Keep or discard Press ↩ or keep typing to keep it. Press esc to remove it.

Inside Aha’s own windows the shortcut does nothing, so a normal paste there is never intercepted.

Private clipboard items stay put

Kept off the network

Password managers mark the items they copy as concealed. Smart Paste refuses those, and anything that looks like a password, API key or card number, and tells you instead of sending it.

Everything else goes through the same protection as Field Assist. Saved personal info is swapped for placeholders before anything leaves your Mac, and you can see exactly what was sent in Settings › Privacy.

Change or turn off the shortcut

In Settings › Shortcuts, click the Smart Paste shortcut and press a new combination, or use the switch next to it to turn Smart Paste off. Smart Paste shares the weekly allowance with Field Assist. See Account and usage.
